Artificial Intelligence is transforming research, education, manufacturing and everyday life. To prepare the next generation of talent for a diverse, well-trained AI workforce, the U.S. National Science Foundation directorates for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) and STEM Education launched the NSF EducateAI initiative. This program aims to make state-of-the-art, inclusive AI educational experiences available nationwide.

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology plans to announce an open competition for a new Manufacturing USA institute focused on using artificial intelligence to improve the resilience of U.S. manufacturing. NIST anticipates that $70 million in federal funds will be invested in this new institute over five years, with an equal or greater contribution from private and other nonfederal funding sources.

How Digital Twins Could Protect Manufacturers From Cyberattacks

A team of researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the University of Michigan devised a cybersecurity framework that brings digital twin technology together with machine learning and human expertise to flag indicators of cyberattacks. In a paper published in IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering, the researchers showed the feasibility of their strategy by detecting cyberattacks aimed at a 3D printer in their lab.
